Breathing New Life

Happy Thanksgiving...Merry Christmas...Happy 2012, MLK, Jr. Day, Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day...yada, yada, yada...yes, it has been a while.  Truthfully, I've been uninspired to blog - perhaps a result of the cold, dark months?  Regardless, now that spring has sprung, I've decided to breathe some new life - ahem posts - into Schnitzel with Noodles...starting with...the guest bathroom!

When we moved in to our house two years ago, it was a short sale and had been severely neglected for lord knows how long.  Thus, we had an arm-length list of prioritized projects.  Two years later, we finally worked our way down the project list and the time had arrived to address the dingy-ness that is the guest bathroom.  After researching the cost of renovation (and wincing each time we discussed it...it was a devil/angel on shoulders moment - holy guacamole lots of money - oh but a pretty new room - but $7K on a guest bath, etc...), we decided this project was just not worth the mucho dinero for total gut and replace.  Instead, a compromise was in order and I used my awesome mom, a free weekend, $200 and REPARO...we have a made-over (and rather cool-looking, if I do say so myself) bathroom!

Before - this photo is from the house listing (oops...I forgot to take a better picture right before we started on Saturday).  Think: yellow paint with awful edges, 70's-era vanity, and really just plain dingy.

After the shopping spree and elbow grease  :)
I've had my eye on this Marimekko Kaiku shower curtain for a while, and with a little prompting from dear 'ol Mom, I finally took the plunge.  The over-the-toilet rack is from Target a few years ago.  We reused the light fixture.  Goodbye yucky yellow walls...hello crisp Celery Sprig!

Rugs and towels are Target.  Please note the towel rods that, during installation, made me utter words I'm not proud of.

The textured black mirror is from Target and we painted over the vintage vanity with black enamel and added knobs.  The medicine cabinet is being reused.  When you open both the medicine cabinet and the vanity, there's a pretty green-flowery contact paper surprise covering up yucky old grossness :)
I'm in love with the refreshed feeling of my new circa 1977 bathroom!  Thanks for your help, Mama!  What did you do this weekend?
