I'm happy to say that I was at school when the, now infamous, Virginia Earthquake occurred this afternoon and it resulted in instantaneous bonding among my new group of Civics teachers. It happened just like in the movies: surviving disaster = new best friends and cheesy instrumental music.
I am thankful for two things in particular following this potential catastrophe:
1. The second floor of the school did not, in fact, come through the ceiling of Room 111, as we all were convinced was happening.
2. This happened before September 6. Not gonna lie, I got a little panicked at the potential of a classroom of teenagers in this situation. Note to my administration: Looks like we have another emergency preparedness drill to add to the list...I have no clue how exactly to escort a classroom full of 30 dramatic 14-year-olds safely to safety while the world is literally being turned upside down. Lord knows they'd be looking for their "boyfriends" in other classrooms to make sure they lived through cataclysm.
