Sweet Tooth

star student: "Mrs. Isoldi...can your sweet tooth tingle?"

me {looking at her crooked and confused, with one raised eyebrow}: "Huh?"

star student {holding her right incisor}: "Can your sweet tooth tingle?"

me: "Well, your sweet tooth is not an actual, singular tooth.  It is more of an expression, which describes the flavors you enjoy tasting."

gullible student {who was legitimately concerned that her love of Christmas would be ruined by the Mayan Apocalypse}: "Ohhhhhh really?  I thought I had 1 sweet tooth!"


Item #2312 that I did NOT expect to be part of my job description when I became a teacher 6 years ago.  Apparently, there should be a separate set of curriculum standards preparing 8th graders for life in general - in addition to the Virginia Standards of Learning.
